SAQA Oceania Blog Hop

36 Oceania members of SAQA have made a 12″ x 12″ quilt for the online SAQA benefit auction so we’ve decided to do a blog hop that documents how each person went about the creation of their quilt. The auction begins on September 16 and there are more than 430 quilts to bid for – many from very […]

Some studio time

I haven’t had much time in the studio lately but today I did some thermofax printing. The design was done from a photocopy of a grevillea leaf from our garden. Note the thermofax screen is taped instead of having a white plastic frame. I didn’t like using these at first – it is easier to […]

Thermofax prints

The green fabric, above, is still in progress – I made 2 thermofax screens using a print from a rolled up piece of cardboard. The print below was designed from a photo of a palm tree trunk.  When we were in Hobart, we visited the MONA (museum of old and new art) pics below. The […]

Some thermofax printing

These prints are over the top of  previous sample pieces, now I think they are usable fabrics with some depth from the layering. The small hand drawn circles were my first thermofax screen – still holding up well. The larger circles are more recent screens. Below: my print table cover – it’s starting to look […]

Quilt and a sketchbooking online course.

This is my quilt, Roses are Red… made for ‘Living Colour’ but not selected again (detail below) Oh well – try again next year! The main red fabric is wool, screen printed with thickened acid milling dyes. The print was from my charcoal drawing which I made into a photographic stencil. The rose leaves were printed […]

Hot Hot Hot!

Much cooler today – to everyone’s relief, but we’ve had a couple of days 44 and 41C with our hottest night on record at over 29 minimum. A horrible bushfire in the Mundaring/ Parkerville area yesterday caused around 50 homes to be destroyed. We live in the hills too, so I really feel for the […]

Printing greens

Green is a not a colour I use a lot but after a couple of printing sessions, I seem to be accumulating a collection – maybe a future quilt. The above fabrics are mainly thermofax printed with Permaset and some discharge (deColourant).
